Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become a primary public health issue worldwide because of its increasing prevalence and incidence rate. The occurrence and development of CKD are closely related to renal perfusion changes. Accurate evaluation of perfusion changes of the kidney is an important component, which would be crucial for clinician to make diagnosis. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound could be used for assessing renal perfusion changes of CKD. This article reviews the research progress of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the evaluation of CKD.
