Abstract:Objective: to assess images characteristics, area ratio and elasticity ratio in thyroid nodules. Methods: Image characteristics, elastic area ratio, elasticity ratio of 105 nodules scanned via elastosonography were assessed retrospectively. The malignant nodules were divided into two groups: group A with maximum diameter less than 1cm and group B with maximum diameter more than or equal to 1cm. Results: 47 of the 70 malignant nodules presented mass-like and 19 of 35 benign nodules were assessed as dot-like. The elasticity ratio of malignant and benign nodules were 1.70±0.67 and 1.32±0.39 (P<0.05), respectively. The elastic area ratio of malignant and benign nodules were 44.8±22.35% and 33.63±20.10% (P<0.05), respectively. For elastic area ratio, there were significant difference between A group and B group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Images characteristics, area ratio and elasticity ratio contributed to displaying different characteristics of thyroid malignant and benign nodules.
