Abstract:With the rapid development of echocardiography, a lot of new techniques have been applied in evaluation of left atrium. The left atrium serves three functions in one cardiac cycle, acting as a reservoir, a conduit and a booster pump. Left atrial function is significant for optimal filling of left ventricle. Evaluation of left atrial morphology and function has been proposed as a predictor of risk, mortality and outcomes of cardiovascular events. Nowadays there are many methods evaluating left atrium by echocardiography, the risk stratification of cardiovascular events have become possible, and result in earlier treatment of cardiovascular events and better outcomes.
