Abstract:Pulmonary hypertension (PH) refers to the pulmonary arterial pressure exceeding a certain threshold and leading to right heart failure syndrome. Elevated right atrial (RA) pressure is an established prognostic measure in PH. However, little is known about perturbations in RA function in PH. Active evaluation of RA structure and function plays an important role in the patients'' diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. This article reviews the methods for assessment of RA function in patients with PH by echocardiography.
