As a novel non-invasive treatment method, focused ultrasound (FUS) can be used to treat brain diseases via thermal ablation of intracranial tissues under specific parameters transcranially. Also, it can be combined with microbubbles to open the blood-brain barrier reversibly, enhancing the efficiency of drug treatment. The US Food and Drug Administration approved FUS ablation for the treatment of essential tremor in 2016. Researches with respect to treating brain diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and tumor via FUS have made some progress as well. This article reviews the research progress of cerebral diseases treatment with FUS.
