Abstract:Objective To evaluate common carotid arterialstructure and functionin healthy adults using quality intima-media thickness(QIMT) and quantitative artery stiffness(QAS). Methods 360 subjects were divided into 3 groups based on age: young group(20~39 years), middle-age group(40~59 years) and aged group(60~79 years), 120 persons in each group. The bilateral common carotids arterial intima-media thickness(IMT) and elasticity coefficient were respectively measured by QIMT and QAS. Distention coefficient (DC)、compliance coefficient(CC)、stiffness parameter(α、β) and pulse wave velocity(PWV) were analyzed. The results of parameters among bilateral carotids , different genders anddifferent ages were compared and discussed. Results ①There were no statistically significant differences in IMT, DC, CC, α, β and PWV between bilateral common carotids groups. ②DC of male group is higher than that of female group, there were statistically significant differences (P<0.05). ③ IMT values increased while DC values decreased from young group to middle-age group and aged group. Compared with young group, CC values decreased whileα, β and PWV values increased in middle-age group and aged group(P<0.05), but there were no statistical differences between middle-age group and aged group. Conclusions Age and gende could influent structure and function of common carotid artery in healthy adults.
