Abstract:Objective :To investigate the ultrasonographic features of focal splenic lesions on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and the difference between benign and malignant lesions. Methods: The ultrasonographic characteristics of 24 patients with focal splenic lesions diagnosed by surgery or percutaneous biopsy in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Ultrasonographic characteristics of the benign and malignant focal splenic lesions were compared including the maximum diameter, number of lesions, echo, margin, shape, the enhancement degree in arterial phase and venous phase, and the presence of obvious wash-out within 3min after contrast agent injection. Results :A total of 24 focal splenic lesions were included in 24 patients, including 15 benign lesions and 9 malignant lesions. Three benign lesions showed no enhancement on CEUS,the remaining 21 lesions showed enhancement, including 12 benign and 9 malignant lesions. The presence of obvious wash-out within 3min after contrast agent injection were statistically different in benign and malignant focal splenic lesions (P<0.05), while there were no statistically significant differences in the maximum diameter, number of lesions, echo, margin, shape, the enhancement degree in arterial phase and venous phase. Conclusion :Focal splenic lesions have certain CEUS characteristics, and the presence of clear wash-out of contrast agent within 3min is helpful for differentiating benign from malignant lesions.
