Ultrasonic myocardial work is a new tool for quantitative evaluation of myocardial function using the noninvasive left ventricular pressure-strain loop based on 2D speckle tracking echocardiography combined with left ventricular afterload. This paper reviews the progress of ultrasonic myocardial work and its application in the evaluation of left ventricular dysfunction by different etiology, in order to promote it to more clinical scenarios.
